You’re engaged, planning your wedding, and starting to dream up your wedding photos, starting with your Bucks County engagement session. As a Bucks County wedding photographer and Bucks County native, there are few things I recommend higher than a engagement photos. It’s a great way to practice being in front of the camera, get a snapshot of your life as it is right now before you’re married, and have beautiful time capsule photographs for the rest of your lives together.
It can be hard to pick a great location for your photos, though. There are a lot of gorgeous locations that require permits or don’t allow photography at all. Here’s where I’ll help you, but it is a choose-your-own-adventure type of situation. Engagement sessions are very personal to your relationship, and they should be. The best engagement photographs come out of the reality of your relationship and the beauty of your connection.
So we’ll start with some of the most beautiful Bucks County engagement session locations, and I’ll also tell you how to wander through an unexpected version of an engagement session that might interest you.

Bucks County Engagement Session Locations
Let’s start with a few of my favorite Bucks County engagement session locations.
Tyler Gardens
Tyler Gardens is a gorgeous spot on the Bucks County Community College Campus, which you’d never expect! It’s a historic campus, so there’s a beautiful story woven in to the history of the gardens. With plenty of corners to explore, Tyler Gardens is a mix of elegant, sprawling, and blooming. To shoot there, you do have to schedule with them and pay a small fee!

Tyler State Park
Tyler State Park is just next to Tyler Gardens and is its gorgeous and wild cousin. With the Neshaminy creek flowing through it and hills, fields, and lush greenery everywhere you look, this state park is a fantastic option for an option that feels like it could have taken place in a national park.

Bucks County Engagement Session in Small Towns
The charm of Bucks County small towns is evident. I often recommend exploring engagement session locations before we go there together for the fun of it and discovering what you love about the location together, and this is no different. Exploring a small town with a few dollars in your pocket and the sun shining down is a great way to spend a date. Here are just a few that I love:
New Hope/Lamberville, which is separated by a fantastic bridge over the Delaware River.
Doylestown, which boasts a super sweet blue theater and Fonthill Castle.
Yardley, which has such destinations as a canal towpath, a sweet coffee shop, and so many sweet ducks!
Newtown, which is old and sleepy and historic (plus it has an amazing ice cream shop)
Bristol, which has a gorgeous waterfront, historic homes, and a nature trail. (Bonus: there’s also a great bookstore there that’s great for photos!)

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve
I’ve spent a lot of time at Bowman’s, and for good reason. There are a lot of gorgeous small pockets of beauty here, including their moss garden, lush wildflower field, the charming pond, stone bridge, and countless unexpected spots. It’s beautiful throughout the seasons. This one isn’t technically free (there’s a small admission fee to support the preserve), but there isn’t a photography permit fee at the time of writing this post.

Wandering Engagement Sessions
Here’s where engagement sessions start to get a liiiiiittle more interesting. Single-location sessions are great, especially if you can find a spot that means a lot to you as a couple, but I like to encourage wandering sessions to my couples. So what does this mean?
Pick one spot to start, an anchor
This might be one of the locations above, it might be a coffee shop, a bar for a glass of champagne, or even your home to evoke getting ready on your wedding day.

Find a few locations nearby, nothing fancy necessarily
Nearby, we’ll visit some other locations. This doesn’t have to be crazy. It can be a tree you saw once that you loved, an ice cream shop, a rooftop, or just the other side of town. It’s best when this is walkable, like a small town.
This is where the magic happens, because wandering through a busier place means we might spot a beam of light, a shady tree, or something in a window. The key is we’ll be actively looking for little spots that make us smile, or inspire us.

How it works from a photoshoot perspective
It’s not easy being in front of the camera. Unless you’re a professional model, It’s not actually normal! So if you have nerves, that makes you normal. I’m doing my job if I put you at ease. We’ll focus your attention not on me, not on my camera, but on what you’re doing and on each other. There will obviously be exceptions when I help guide you through certain scenes and I can always step in to help more if you’d like.
