Romantic New Jersey Vineyard Wedding | Katie + Alex

Bride and groom in front of rustic barn at Unionville Vineyards

I’m so fortunate to be in close distance to so many different types of venues between New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware (and, oh gosh, beyond). Make sure to reach out now if you’re looking for an artsy, photojournalistic wedding photographer so I can help you capture the story of your day and the way it felt to be so in love. Thank you for your interest, and enjoy this gorgeous summer wedding day!

A wedding day is the opportunity to be creative while also going home again. Katie and Alex chose Unionville vineyards for their Vineyard wedding because it was close to their hearts (Katie had been going there with family for years and years!) and positively beautiful.

About the Couple

Katie and Alex share a cool calmness that I see in a lot of the couples I get to work with. That sort of cool-kid vibe, but in the way that they’d invite you to their lunch table with a smile, a nod, and a welcoming approval. It’s with this kind of client that I feel extremely humble and grateful, because it reminds me… They chose me. I get to be here.

Getting ready in the Vineyard Farmhouse

When I first saw Katie on her wedding day, she was surrounded by pajamas and smiles. The women in her life were leaning, chitchatting, and quietly humming along to the building excitement of the wedding. Katie was relaxed, hands in her lap as her hair was being done. Unionville Vineyards was a place she’d been coming to for years with her family, so the summer sun warming the vineyard ceremony space was like a sweet approval from the wedding venue itself.

The farmhouse is separated into two sides, so that the groom can get ready with his groomsmen on one side and the bride can get ready (and have easy access to the kitchen!) on the other. Just close enough to overhear the excitement from across the hallway while still keeping the bride and groom separate for the morning!

A sweet first look overlooking the winery

Katie and Alex chose to have their first look in the sunroom of the Vineyard farmhouse. Katie waited in her stunning wedding dress, colorful veil, and sparkling shoes as Alex entered from the house. They shared a beautiful moment together as they watched their loved ones arriving and walking around the house to their ceremony space, waving as their first look was sneakily spotted.

A shady Vineyard wedding ceremony

The ceremony space at Unionville Vineyards overlooks both a private garden, the vineyard itself, and sprawling fields, while sitting in the shade of the farmhouse. It’s a large space and the wedding party approached the ceremony from around the side of the house, so the guests got to take in beautiful signs on all sides as they entered.

Wedding Photos in the Vineyard

The day unfolded with butterflies and let-loose dancing. Katie and Alex weren’t sure they wanted to spend too long on their couple’s photos, and among a few palpitations I convinced them to step aside with me and the videographer.

Wedding days can be pretty packed timeline-wise and can feel like a bit of a sprint for couples, which is why when building a timeline ahead of time with a couple I encourage them to build in a little extra time around photo events. If we finish early, they can breathe out and enjoy a private glass of champagne (I’ll be hiding somewhere snapping a few covert and candid photos, of course). If we take up all the time, it’s slow, easy, and not rushed.

The tented reception and open-air dance floor

After their ceremony and many, many hugs and laughs, the bride and groom made their way to their reception. I adored the way the sunlight poured onto the dance floor, and the summer evening was an absolutely perfect one.

We also found ourselves rushing a bit later underneath the willow tree a little later. The two had just begun jamming on the dance floor but wanted to catch the golden sunset through the leaves with their wedding party. At the same time, the planner was calling out to me from across the field that it was time for the cake cutting. So we danced our way back, got the shots, and made it in time for cake and a sparkler exit. The day was a summer daydream.

Each wedding I get to be apart of is incredibly special to me. I try to notice tender friendships and loving glances. This is where I'll tell you about what I've noticed. I find my visual work is a lot more eloquent than my writing, though. ;)
